Code of Ethics

Adagio massage therapists:

1.  Are committed to the highest quality of care.

2.  Represent their qualifications honestly.

3.  Accurately inform the public of the scope and limitations of their discipline.

4.  Acknowledge the contraindications and limitations of massage and refer clients to appropriate health professionals when needed.

5.  Provide treatment only when expected to be advantageous to the client.

6.  Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.

7.  Conduct business and professional activities with honesty and integrity.

8.  Refuse to unjustly discriminate against clients or health professionals.

9.  Safeguard the confidentiality of all client information, unless disclosure is

required by law or necessary for the protection of the public.

10. Obtain the informed consent of the client before providing treatment.

11. Respect the client's right to refuse, modify, or terminate treatment.

12. Provide draping and treatment to ensure safety, comfort and privacy.

13. Exercise the right to refuse treatment for just and reasonable cause.

14. Refrain from any sexual conduct involving a client.

15. Avoid any activity which conflicts with the best interests of the client or the profession.

16. Respect the client's boundaries with regard to privacy, disclosure, exposure, emotional expression, beliefs, and the client's reasonable expectations of professional behavior. Practitioners will respect the client's autonomy.

17. Refuse any gifts or benefits that are intended to influence a referral, decision or treatment, or that are purely for personal gain.

18. Follow all policies, procedures, guidelines, regulations, codes, and requirements of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

Standards of Practice

In addition, but not limited to, Adagio therapists:

a. conduct selves in a manner meriting the respect of the public.
b. provide safe and comfortable environment which, meets legal health and safety requirements.
c. ensure professional hygienic practices personal hygiene.
d. wear clothing that is clean, modest, and professional.
e. obey all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
f. refrain illegal, discriminatory, or unethical actions.
g. maintain accurate and truthful records.
h. maintain liability insurance.
i. file all applicable municipal, state and federal taxes
j. maintain accurate financial records, contracts and legal obligations, appointment records, tax reports and receipts.
