Massage Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat should I expect when I arrive?A brief health form is filled out on your first visit to determine what types of massage are appropriate for your individual needs. Significant health conditions may require that a physician give approval for massage. All records remain confidential. Let your massage therapist know your goals for that day. What is the room like? The massage room is quiet, with soft music playing. The sheets are crisp and freshly laundered after each client. Massage creams and oils are unscented and pure for those having allergies. What do I wear? The therapist leaves the room to wash hands. You should dress to your comfort level. Effective massage can be given fully clothed, though traditionally people undress to underwear and lay beneath the sheets and blankets. The massage therapist will drape the sheets for your warmth, comfort and modesty. What happens during the massage? What do I do?Massage may include gliding, kneading, friction, rocking, tapping, compression strokes to the scalp, face, neck, shoulders, back, arms, hands, legs and feet. The therapist will let you know if any help is needed. Some people like to talk during the massage, but most find it’s most relaxing to close their eyes and rest. Please advise your therapist of your preferences (temperature, music, lotion or oil, massage depth, areas to concentrate on, areas to avoid). You can even bring music and oils you like. What happens after the massage? After a massage, the therapist leaves the room and you have a few minutes to rest and get dressed. The therapist can recommend strengthening and/or stretches if you desire. It’s important to drink extra water for a day or two for a variety of reasons (flush toxins, speed muscle recovery, minimize soreness, improve well-being...). |
