Lomi Lomi Massage

Lomilomi is a rhythmic massage of broad, spiraling strokes using two-hands, forearms and elbows, and is similar to Swedish massage.

Lomilomi became popular in western culture in the 1970s when first taught by Margaret Machado.  Lomilomi translates as “rub rub” in Hawaiian & is also known as Huna. It incorporates the holistic healing of kahunas, Hawaiian healers.

Lomilomi is considered a spiritual massage, incorporating ho'oponopono, a practice of making things right with yourself and others to restore balance.  According to Hawaiians, thoughts contain mana, or energy. Aloha means sacred breath of life. Recipients are encouraged to use proper breathing and positive thinking.

Some key kahuna principles:

Love without judgment.
Ike (Ee kay) Create reality.
Kala (kah lah) One is not limited.
Kono Replace negative thoughts with aloha.

Makia (mah key ah) One receives the object of focus.
Manawa (mah nah wah) The moment is now.
