ReikiHolding an aching stomach or a throbbing head are common reactions to pain. Reiki focuses the healing in one’s hands. Reiki balances and energizes the body so it recovers quickly and stays healthy. Reiki can be used by anyone. There are no religious, educational or intellectual requirements. Origins of ReikiReiki began in ancient Tibet, but is also used in India, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China and Japan. It was rediscovered in the mid 1800s by Dr. Mikao Usui of Kyoto, Japan. The Japanese word “reiki” (ray-key) means Universal Life Energy. How Does Reiki Work? Our body’s energy becomes disrupted when we accept negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves, causing energy blockages & physical pain. Reiki is a meditative process to focus on fresh clean energy flowing. Emotional problems often contribute to physical ailments. Physical trauma often contribute to emotional problems. Reiki aids both physical and mental balance. What Happens in a Reiki Session?Reiki is performed in a warm, quiet, uncluttered location with fresh air and natural light. The person receiving reiki may notice a drop in body temperature as he or she relaxes. Blankets are provided if necessary. The client remains clothed. Natural fiber clothing, such as cotton, is best. The session is conducted in silence so both parties can concentrate. The practitioner places hands lightly on the body until the palms warm up. Passive touch continues on twelve locations on the body, including the head, sides of face, chest, arms, feet, legs, and back. Each position is held for 3-5 minutes. The recipient is given time at the end of the session to relax. - Chi Energy Workbook by Simon G. Brown |
